Shawni has been passionately teaching yoga since 2002 upon her return from a deep journey of learning in India. Yoga was never just a workout for Shawni - it was her path to awakening and liberation. After a lot of studying with different teachers and searching for the lineage where she would find home, she was finally initiated into the Sri Vidya tradition in 2011 by her teacher Yogarupa Rod Stryker.

Shawni's classes are an eclectic fusion of her knowledge of many different styles and her personal heart inspired approach to the wholeness of the practice. Shawni teaches students that when we are able to quiet our lower mind we are able to tap into our deeper or higher mind, allowing a connection to our timeless Selves and a purpose filled life of service to our Higher Selves.

We all struggle with body image, I’m no stranger to it. Once tipping the scales at 215 pounds, I found myself plateauing after a 40lb weight-loss. A dear friend introduced me to Bikram’s Hot Yoga while I was living in Miami’s South Beach. I remember every moment of my first class, recognizing, I couldn’t touch my toes or barely even pick up my foot, yet I was truly inspired by the people around me, somehow, knowing that in that moment I was shape shifting my life forever.

Yoga came into my life exactly when I needed it most, strengthening my body while quieting my mind. I continued to grow in ways I could never have imagined.  Yoga made my limbs suddenly feel stronger and more toned. I became better at breathing. Yes, more conscious and aware of how I used my breathe to move through my body. I started to shift my thoughts and change my mind. I became more aware of habits, both good and bad. I began to listen more, not just to the people around me, but to myself, my body, my intuition.

Yoga gave me will power I never knew I had. It gave me fortitude, strength, perseverance, courage, SELF LOVE.

I teach from a space of possibility. I encourage my students to stay interested in their practice and urge them to constantly try something new. If you apply yourself, and stay open to what your body is capable of, you will unlock the magic of your yoga practice.

I have been teaching at Bikram Yoga Marina del Rey since I graduated from training in Spring 2013.  I am the creator of a local after school yoga program, Practice not Perfect, which is coming up on it's fourth year! I am always searching and striving to learn more, so I can be the most effective teacher possible. I am currently enrolled in the Loyola Marymount University program for Yoga and the Healing Sciences, and I also begin teaching and working with the USC football team this coming season. You can see more about me and my passion for yoga on my website www.thisyogilife.com

When I discovered Bikram Yoga in 2003, a Fire was lit within me that has inspired me to inspire others, empowered me to empower others in their ability to change their minds, their bodies, and the consciousness with which they conduct their lives. True to my scorpio nature, I have worked wholeheartedly and passionately to do the work of asana to open and strengthen the body, and through the body, the mind. I have therapeutically opened and strengthened my shoulders, my spine, my hips, knees, and ankles, my mind, my heart, and my life.

I have been Student, Teacher, Studio Owner, Presenter, Demonstrator, 5 time California State Champion, on the National stage 6 times, and Nationally ranked. In addition to the knowledge of the many esteemed teachers I have learned from along the way, I Teach from what I have come to call the Laws of Nature, the Knowing in my Tissues, and my direct experience of having created some of the deepest and most difficult postures “from scratch.” I have Coached over a dozen competitors comprehensively on Regional, National and International Stages. I’ve mentored and taught at Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, and demonstrated the advanced series alongside with Bikram, Emmy, The International Champions, and many others for the new graduates of seven trainings, each with an audience of 300 to more than 400 people. I have expanded far beyond the 26, or even the 84, inviting the wisdom of the ages, the wisdom of multiple disciplines into my practice, my consciousness, and my heart.

My hope for You is that after we Share Pure Time in Practice, you will Gain Clarity and Connect to Intention, causing you to realize far more benefit from your practice.  My Deepest Hope is that you will Fall in Love with your Practice all over again! Please Join Me for the Day!
